Lil' correction and also new games!

Ok kids
sunday was very interesting with the introduction of two new, well-known poker games:

01. Deuce to Seven &
02. Seven-Card Stud

Deuce to Seven has two variations: Single & Triple Draw

Stud can also be played as a Five or Seven Card game too!

Anyhowo... CORRECTION!

We were playin 2-7 WAY TOO BIG...
n in our ,10c/,25c home game structure
Deuce to Seven betting stucture SHOULD look like this:

~This is the Home Game "Limit" Structure~

SB ,10c
BB ,25c

Betting Rd1 & Rd2
Call ,25c
1Bet ,50c
2Bet ,75c !! (only +,25c)
3Bet 1euro !!!

Betting Rd3 & Rd4 (IF APPLICABLE)
(The min. bet DOUBLES, so does the min raise)
Call ,50c
1Bet 1euro
2Bet 1,50euro
3Bet 2euro !!!

Instead of double, double, double betting that we were playin
Our highest bet was a 4euro bet...
THATS TOO BIG FOR OUR STACKSIZES
Adam felt this already n its really not correct also
so!

THIS APPLIES FOR ALL LIMIT GAMES STRUCTURES
unless we agree to play higher
THIS IS CORRECT FOR OUR LEVEL AT THE MOMENT...

Any questions, ya betta ax sombadee

Note: Ive just read a small article up on BADUGI
YEA! this is gonna be introduced next week!

Then we'll have close to 10 games we can play!
YEA!

01. NLHE
02. PLO + HI/LOW
03. NLO(maha)
04. OMAHA-HA
05. STUD-MAHA + -MAHAHA
06. MISTAKE-MAHA + -MAHAHA
07. 7-CARD STUD
08. 2-7 3-DRAW + 1-DRAW (KansasCity Lowball)

Games to come:
! BADUGI !
!! RAZZ !!
5-CARD STUD
7-CARD DRAW + 5-CARD
PLHE

& lets not forget:

GREEN CIRCLE RED SQUARE! YEA!

a beautiful day in the neighborhood...

YEA!

Sunday happened to be an extra nice day outside
wiht lots of sun in the garden
relaxing wit a spliff
drinkin wine
n goin ALL-IN.

in the garden? wat? YEP.

a shorthanded game with dave adam n myself (beebz)
move the table out into the garden and
played until the sun went down.
awwww how nice. ALL-IN.

N we introduced some new games! YEA!

beebzz offered up Deuce to Seven NL Lowball
otherwise known as "Kansas City Lowball"

n Dave offered up Seven Card Stud. YEA!

We also played a variant of 2-7
that we all reaaaallly liked
called "Deuce to Seven Triple-Draw Limit Lowball"
n this was the happy/tilt-maker! YEA!

If you guys would like to see some 2-7 in action
there is very little to see on the internet
but there are a few videos on PokerTube
of the WSOP 2004 $5k 2-7 NL game final table
and also a very little torrents also
where 2-7 s buried inside larger WSOP 2004 4.5gb files

either or both new games are great to play n
fun for the bankroll! YEA!

enjoy
next Saturday/Sunday I can offer up the garden again
for an outdoor Cash game so lets get some good weather i the forecast!
YEA!

04. A6s SB, flopped an Ace, but no flush draw, another flush draw hit n a straight draw, I was initial raiser HU facin a 35euro bet on teh turn... death. watta kut run. KNowni I was beat, Could feel dat shit...

no suited connectors
no pocket pairs
cold deck for 2hours
2 good players were check-raisin me pre-flop

2,5hrs of Poker at Holland Casino Zandvoort

Heyhey!
since you kids played on friday
I had a free weekend (sat/sun)
n was feelin a good poker vibe still
So I found a live game!

Holland Casino Zandvoort
2/2 NLHE 9-man table
Start 20:00, 7days/wk
Buy-in: 100min-400max

Theres only one table!
HA! YEA!
But hey no matta, kids were playin loose aggressive
or passive loose/calling stations
NICE FEEL!

I bought in for 300 n
Caught a nice rush after about 45mins
was up 230euro after 1:30hrs in n (SHOULDA CASHED OUT! DOH)
so peaked there n waited through a
half-hour of a cold deck
then my last hand lost 90 in a limped BB hand
when I hit 2 pair on the flop, a fullhouse on the turn
n it was only us blinds goin at it
SB bet 30 on the end, I raised to 60
she called n had the bigger fullhouse! DOH!
so lost 90 there, coulda saved 30 on the end
only up 140 up then...
n decided to bolt after 2:30hr of play =)

decent win
abit less than 25/hr ROI!
I can dig it!

After the 1st hour a guy walked out wit 800 CASH ME OUT!
Another big stack had 650
n I left him to clean it up more...
nuthin like da live game!
WAT! NICE.

N E 1 wanna join me next time?!

Bing Bang Pow : Ch3ckraise chant!

Hilarious thread on 2 plus 2 over the last week or 2 about a chant that a player called Ch3ckraise was using online against people that he beat in a pot or stacked!

The Thread is fucking hilarious but the chant is here and it is sung to the tune of Boom, boom pow from black eyed peas!

This chant got out of hand though and people created small animations and then a song to highlight the awesomeness of the thread!

Genius stuff!

Sick hand from the weekend!

Implied Odds

Seeing as they seem so terribly misunderstood by people I thought I would post something about it on here.... maybe help some people learn what true implied odds are and how it ACTUALLY works instead of just guessing, "but if I hit one of 4 outs, I will win his stack" which is incorrect methodology for implied odds, implied odds is math, not hoping. The mathematics are complex and relate to many variables in the pot and the action. Hopatronics and Implied odds in hindsight do not justify bad losing decisions.

Poker Implied Odds
Where pot odds take into consideration the money that's in the pot right now, implied odds is an estimation on how much money you CAN win from the bet if you hit one of your outs. For instance, with 100 in the pot, and a bet of 20, is your gain really only 100 if you win? Can you really not squeeze out an extra few bucks from your opponent if you hit your flush? You probably can - and so as the pot will get bigger, your implied odds go up.

A good example of when implied odds in poker come into play is when you limp in with a small or medium pair before the flop in hold 'em. Your chance of hitting a set (which is typically the only way a small or medium pair will win) is around 7.5-1, which means that pot needs to have 6 or 7 other limpers to make it worthwhile. But, of course, that's presuming that everyone will fold if you hit your set, which is rarely the case. Let's say instead that you get four other limpers and your bets will narrow the field down by 50% on the flop, and another 50% on the turn - what are your implied odds?

Four limpers to the flop = 4 SB.
Two callers to the turn = 2 SB.
One caller to the river = 1BB = 2 SB.

Here, you stand to win 8 small bets, at the initial price of 1, which gives your call positive expectation. By this count, your implied odds are good to make this pre-flop call with a weak pair because of the money you'll figure to win if you do hit your set, rather than the amount you're "guaranteed" to win.

Here's the downside to implied odds in poker though: They're an estimation, and as it so happens, people tend to be way too optimistic in calculating them.

For instance:
K♥ 7♦
On a board with:
Q♥ 9♣ 8♥ A♥

gives you 9 outs to a flush, which is a 4-1 shot. Now let's say that there were only two of you in the pot, one limper and you in the BB. Flop was checked around, and he bet at the turn after you checked, the pot would be about 2BB. You're paying 2-1 to see the last card, which could give you the nut flush - but do you call? Pot odds say no. Implied odds likely don't give you the numbers you're looking for either, but this is where people get overoptimistic!

If your opponent paired his ace and has no hearts, would he really bet into a four-suited board after the river? Would he call your bet? Probably not. You can hardly figure to win more than the money that's already in the pot at the turn, because if you make your hand on the river, he's not going to pay you enough. Even if he calls an extra bet on the river (maybe he has the J♥), you're still not getting good enough odds. At that point, your call on the turn will have cost you 1BB, and you're looking at a profit of 3BB, which gives you 3-1. You'll have to successfully checkraise him (and he has to call your checkraise) for it to be near profitable, and you have to succeed at that every time that you hit your flush. Hardly likely.

I know some players who think this is mathematical mumbo-jumbo and has no place in a gambler's heart, but this is really the principle that separates winning players from losing players: Being able to tell a profitable bet from a non-profitable one. In the example above, there's a non-profitable bet being offered. Don't take it. Learn your poker pot odds and implied odds thoroughly so you know which choice is the right choice.

Why I played it So BAD...

well I came in 5th AGAIN... suck.
I had a great stack etween 7-10k during the middle-late stage of the 8man tourney saturday nite 11apr09 at daves n played one hand bad n was eliminated... I'll tell ya why:

Here how my last hand played out:

Blinds at 200/400 5-handed.
Dave first to act raises to 1200, 3xBB. I CALL (mental note here). Andy calls, dealer & blinds fold, we see a flop.

3 Q J rainbow

Daves first to act n goes All-In immediately with 7k more. I think he doesnt have a queen cas he wasnt showing real strength (Dave's big tell wasnt present ;) I have 6k more so hes putting me ALL-IN if I call. so after about a minute of internal deliberation I think Im good n I CALL. Hoping Andy folds cas "I GOT A MONSTER IF IM CALLING" he open folds QTs and folds top pair. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. of course any of us could b holding that AQ right? NATURALLY, he thught Dave had it, He ut me on a J. 50% great read Andy. but no... dave flips over 9Ts, hes drawin to an open ended straight draw (minus the backdoor flush), n I flip over KJs for middle pair n a backdoor flush draw. So its a race and I'm in the lead but hes got 7outs to hit his straight but still only about 30-35% to hit I believe (anyone know the numbers here?). He needs help n I have to hold on.

Turn comes Q, paired the board took away some percenteages to hittin on the river, now hes about 15-20% to make his straight(?), I got 2 pair this is looking good. Dave needs a K or an 8 to hit the straight or HES OUTA HERE (hed have 1 orange chip left n the blinds would eat him up in 1round)...

River card: 8

He hits his straight n IM OUT.

BULLSHIT or >>> I PLAYED IT SO BAD.

WHY U ASK?
Heres why.

Cas CALLING the pre-flop raise was a the wrong move wit 2 suited paints. ITS A MONSTER shorthandand, any Ace rag should fold here to a Riase + ReRaise 7k to call for 80-90% of their chip stack. Either RAISE OR FOLD, no weak calling here, its the wrong move. SO, by NOT RAISING about 5k MORE pre-flop which wouldve induced 2 quick folds, I let then BOTH see a flop that I couldve avoided elimination from an also woulda won a decent sized pot, bumped back u to 10k n held a strong chip stack goin into the later rounds of the tourney 5handed.

By playing weak I lost. Lesson learned.

Note to self: Making mistakes on my home turf is needed so that when I get into the big dance for a chance for the BIG SCORE (1million to da winner), THESE MISTAKES WONT HAPPEN. WANNA CASH, GONNA CASH, 40th Edition WSOP 2009 HERE I COME. 11wks to game time.

Mike wins the big tourney!!!

Yep first timer mike took it down when he got a fullhouse on the turn
in the first hand of heads up!! Andy moved all in with 1 pair and was
out in second! Mike had the massive chip lead after a huge triple up
against David and Robbert when his QQ held up!

Well done Mike!

On the move......

The tourney begins!!

Adam destroys Roy's stack when he rivers a better fullhouse!!!

Kings full of threes vs threes full of aces!

Roy wins €40 pot with quad quuens on the river!

Yep rob moved all in with the nut straight and Roy called when he
rivered quad queens!! Rob was feeling a bit ill!

On the move......

Start of the biggest come back ever......? Errrrrrrr no :(

Me Robbert and Adam got together to play a few hands and it was a bit wild and Loony..

Craziest hand of the night was Robbert calling Adam's all in with AJ against Adams AK, and Robbert hit the nut straight on the turn after Adam hit the King on the flop... horrible.

so another impromptu game more crazy hands!

The Poker Shrink, Vol. 52: The Butterfly Effect

From Poker News)
March 23, 2009
Dr. Tim Lavalli
Psychology is, at least in part, about teaching us how to effectively cope when life deals us setbacks. There are many ways to deal with life's little problems. One particularly effective way is perspective. Putting your problem in the proper place in your overall life. Here is one way to gain such perspective.

The butterfly effect serves as a metaphor for life in a chaotic, uncontrollable, unpredictable world. Specifically, it suggests that small events can have very large effects. The commonly used example is of a butterfly flapping its tiny wings over Japan and setting off a wind current that eventually causes a hurricane in America a week later.

The point?

Tiny changes in one place can have huge ramifications later on in another. Here is a concrete poker example. Its late in Day One of a major tournament, you are ready to come over the top of an opening bet with your J-J but the big stack steps in first and moves all in. You toss your jacks in the muck and curse your luck when the big stack shows 9-9 and takes out the other guy with A-K. That was your pot and then you hear that the big stack got that way earlier in the day when he was dealt pocket aces three times and ran down pocket queens or kings to build his stack. He is just lucky but now you have to deal with him sitting on your right reraising pot after pot in front of you.

Its not how he is playing that bugs you, it's the easy way he got his big stack with all those aces. The aces were the butterflies; the hurricane is now sitting at your table. Relax. You know all those short stacks you took out to get your chips? Well, they are the result of the same butterfly effect.

Here is my time-tested bad beat recovery tool, using the random, chaotic language of the butterfly effect. I call it the "688/687" truism. You have just won a 688-player poker tournament, you are getting your picture taken and your first-place prize counted out in Bellagio chips. No need for any psychological support here — congratulations. Now turn the wheel slightly, you are passing the final table and see them giving the prize money to another player, you busted out of that tournament ten hours ago. But you see that tournament only had 687 runners and just one less player meant the difference in winning or losing for every single one of the 687 or 688 players.

The final entrant in any tournament changes the entire event. Cards are dealt differently at his first table with an extra player. Tables breakdown just a bit faster with more players. Players are distributed to the empty seats around the room in a different order. That donkey doesn't give you his chips in the "687" tournament because he is seated at a different table. In the "688" event, you got those chips and they got you past that one bad beat and allowed you to play on and eventually win.

No, I am not saying that it's all random or that luck wins out over skill at the poker table. But I am definitely saying that there are hands being played at other tables that will eventually have a major effect on how you play your cards later in the tournament.

You know we always laugh at the absolute donkey who makes it to the final table as the chip leader, but we forget all the other really bad players who gave us their chips so that we could be at the final table to beat that donkey.

The point?

There are random events that happen away from your table that you cannot control. They actually have as much to do with who wins and who loses as your own play poker. So when you do get hit with the bad beat, the cold deck or the cooler, the best thing you can do for your sanity is to walk away from the table with two thoughts in your head:

First: "Seven-deuce off-suit beats pockets aces 12% of the time."

Second: "There are a lot of butterflies in Japan."

Yes, I am the biggest culprit of suffering this.... my trash talk and frustration at being donked on yet again is something I am working on. Having a total fool make a huge mistake as I intended them too and have them suck out to a 4 outer still tilts me VERY badly.... drives me nuts, but I need to get it under control.

Geek power!

Gone wrong perhaps, will sort it out later!

Equity
***cards*** win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ac Jc 5c 6d 8 20.00 30 75.00 2 5.00 0.225
Js Ad Td Jh 30 75.00 8 20.00 2 5.00 0.775

I always like to run hands through equity calculators to find out if i was lucky, unlucky, find out the probability of hands, helps to evaluate if I made thee right decision or not, helps future decisions that might come up in similar situations.

This one showing that on the turn I am 75% to win the hand, what is suprising sometimes though is even though I called with the implied odds of hitting a J or a king (I was convinced a J would win me the hand also from watching him during the game)
I was also still a slight favourite on the flop!

***cards*** win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ac Jc 5c 6d 198 24.15 297 36.22 325 39.63 0.440
Js Ad Td Jh 297 36.22 198 24.15 325 39.63 0.560

so it's a bit shit in the display but you can see that on the flop I was 36% and he was just 24% to win the hand on the flop and 25% (3:1 dog) to win on the turn.

geek power!!

Hand from this morning!! LOL

CASH GAMES!

I thought with the fact that we are all playing many more cash games lately that I would place a few of our house rules online to prevent any situations from arising that may cause upset and as a place for us to use as reference where necessary.

1. Games are dealers choice, but susceptible to a group vote, if only one man wants to play stud and no one else, the group can refuse. PLO, PLO HI/LO, limit, Pot Limit and No limit holdem are ALWAYS ok to play.

(Crazy pineapple, pineapple, Studmaha, and Omahaha are selective to a few of us and can be voted out and I believe should be ignored if new players wish to play.)

2. 1 person to a hand!! seems silly but it can be easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and start to get involved.

3. The people in a hand can decide how they want to play it, run it twice, 3 times, chop the pot and not run it... it is up to the people in the hand to decide and the dealer to adjudicate if he is not in the hand.

4. If you declare a hand after a river call for showdown, you MUST be able to produce the hand you declare or a better one. You cannot declare a flush if you have two pair in the hope that someone will muck their otherwise winning hand.

5. 7 2 is always active in the cash games we hold. winning with 7 2, even if it is the best hand ( 7 2 suited makes a flush, or 7 2 makes a full hosue etc..) then everyone at the table must pay the winner 1 x big blind.

6. Straddles are live, the initial straddler or straddlers after that can always raise.

7. If there is confusion in a hand about the winner (studmaha for example) then someone must be asked for assistance, usually the dealer unless he is in the hand then his stand in will be asked to referee the situation.

8. Unless otherwise stated and voted on blinds will be 0.10 / 0.25 euro cents.

9. Players can ask each other to change seats if they wish and the deal is between the two and cannot be stopped by another player, if 2 people wish to change seats they have that option.

If we all play nice then it will remain a great game and we can all have fun!

Games tend to be run by : Adam or Dave, if in doubt ask one of them!

VERY late end of year round up!

Yep it happened, the POTY was crowned and the renknowned luck box Dave was the recipient of Player of the year.

The first real game of 2009 has yet to take place, but we will be sure that we try to sort out the POTY system again this year.

It was a close match, Roy came a close second and it did all come down to the last match of the year with Roy needing to knock Dave out without him scoring any points which led to him making some crazy calls and also with the fact he was feeling a bit shitty and ill he ended up not doing to well in that final match.

It came down to Reinder and Dave heads up and With all the chips in the Middle Dave had top piar and a flush Draw and Reinder was needing a none spade 10 in order to win, Dave really thought he had got himself into contention to win it, but a 10 of diamonds on the river sealed the match giving Dave second and the championship.

I am now going to empty the points and we are all going to start a FRESH NEW YEAR!
